Your Child and the COVID-19 Vaccine

Cumberland Pediatrics strongly recommends that every child over 5 years of age receive the vaccine. The best thing you can do as a parent is "create a line of defense" for your child by making sure all household members over 5 are vaccinated.

The COVID-19 vaccine by Pfizer is approved for EUA for patients 5-11 years old. Research shows that the vaccine is about 91% effective in preventing COVID-19 in children 5-11 years of age . The vaccine has also been proven to help decrease transmission of the virus. The vaccine could prevent your child from becoming severely ill or experiencing short or long term complications if infected with COVID-19.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that any child over the age of 2 even those who are vaccinated over the age of 5 should be wearing a mask in school this fall. The quality and fit of your child's mask matters. Make sure their nose and mouth are protected.
