Monkeypox
Monkeypox is caused by infection with the monkeypox virus, the same family of viruses as smallpox.
Monkeypox Testing & Vaccine
We are not testing for monkeypox and do not have the vaccine. Vaccines are currently being managed by your local district health department.
How Monkeypox Spreads
Monkeypox spreads via person-person interaction through:
- direct contact with lesions,scabs or body fluids,
- respiratory secretions during prolonged face-to-face contact,
- handling items without gloves that previously had contact with lesions or body fluids.
Symptoms of Monkey Pox
Symptoms of monkeypox typically last 2 to 4 weeks and can include:
- fever,
- headache,
- muscle aches and backache,
- swollen lymph nodes,
- chills,
- fatigue,
- rash.
When is Monkeypox Contagious?
A person is considered contagious from the onset of symptoms until lesions have crusted and separated and a fresh layer of skin has formed underneath the lesions.
